Puakma: Under the hood

I'm Brendon Upson, jack-of-all-trades, master of one or two. I'm talking about life running a small ISV tackling business issues and leaping technology hurdles in a single bound.

First up. It's been a long time coming but I've finally started looking at the Vortex code and making a few tweaks. First job was to load up the server side SOAPDesigner app and add some functionality (and source code!) to it. New functionality means that you can give your Graphic Designer guy/gal a copy of vortex and allow them to edit the app without letting them see the Java action code. This is going to be useful in the next few weeks as we add a new face to www.talentreactor.com.

Yup, you're right, I've been a bit quiet this year. Real LifeTM has certainly been getting in the way. We bought a new (20yo) house in March as we seriously outgrew our old one. The new one is about 4 times as big as the old one and sits on a half acre. As my Grandmother says "You don't own land, the land owns you". Wise woman. Part of the bargain with my wife was that we install a swimming pool. As it turns out, that meant pool plus landscaping plus ... The amount of sweat I have poured into this place in 2007 has been amazing. Once I finish the 120m2 of tiling I'll be a free to tackle the other 2,000 jobs :-/ Looks good but :-)

And on a more exciting front I'll be enjoying (?!) fatherhood come July 2008. :-D It's been a long time coming!

So here's to 2008 - may things settle down a little and I finish my tiling!

  1. Hey congrats Brendon - its truly amazing when you see those scans!

    - and wow great job on the landscaping - a man after my own heart only in England we only get a postage stamp these days in land with properties (maybe I should move into the sticks).

I downloaded your latest code the other week - but its still sitting on my machine doing nothing - I must play over christmas!
