I would like to try out an ESSO that does what you describe:

If ESSO does a login (handshake and issuing of an LTPA token) remove any jsessionid cookie AND if WEBSSOjesssionidHome= is set then go to the URL specified there.

 I would suggest that you make it configurable wether it should do like that or not.
